The Virgin and Child with Saints Anne and Elizabeth, and an angel ['The Virgin and the Cradle'']

c.1520-1550

Engraving | 24.2 x 17.5 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851274

A print reproducing the so-called Virgin and the Cradle, a composition associated with paintings designed by Raphael between 1518-20 and executed by his workshop. With an empty tablet at lower right.

This print is a copy after an engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi, a first state impression of which can be found at RCIN 851273.

The print shows the full-length seated Virgin, holding the Christ Child with both hands, with Saint Elizabeth bending over the cradle at left and St Anne standing behind them with outstretched arms; an angel holding an amphora next to a water basin at right; in an interior.
