The Queen's Sitting Room, Buckingham Palace

Glass plate negative featuring two almost identical views of the Queen's Sitting Room at Buckingham Palace. The room is filled with an assortment of furniture, sculpture and objects d'art. There are a number of portraits, including two portraits by John Lucas of Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (brother to Prince Albert) and his new bride Princess Alexandrine of Baden (RCINS 404519 and 404512). Above the portrait of Ernest II is a double portrait of Princesses Louise and Helen by James Sant (RCIN 402508). In the centre of the room there is a table with books and objects on top. Hanging over from the ornate gilded ceiling is a chandelier.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2103837.
