Glass plate negatives

Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

ATTRIBUTED TO WILSON & HAY (ACTIVE 1853-55)

      The new Balmoral Castle, Deeside

      c. Sep 1854

Glass plate negative | RCIN 2083975

Glass plate negative of the new Balmoral Castle as viewed from high ground. The castle appears in the bottom right of the negative (bottom left when printed) with the River Dee in the middle ground. In the background are rolling fields.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
