Glass plate negatives

Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

JOHN JABEZ EDWIN MAYALL (1813-1901)

Princess Beatrice (1857-1944)

Jun 1860

RCIN 2082530

Glass plate negative of a full length portrait of Princess Beatrice standing, facing slightly to the left and gazing ahead, away from the camera. She holds a small basket and flowers in front of her, and wears a floral headdress, a locket and a light coloured dress with full skirt. A decorative balustrade can be seen directly behind her.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. At least one print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900354.
