JOHN JABEZ EDWIN MAYALL (1813-1901)

Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78)

May 1860

RCIN 2084861

Glass plate negative of a full-length portrait of Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78), standing, facing three-quarters to the right. She turns her head and looks towards the camera. She poses with her hands held together in front of her body. She wears a dark coloured dress decorated with bows.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900280.
