Glass plate negatives

Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

    AFTER UNKNOWN PERSON

'Prince Arthur, later Duke of Connaught (1850-1942)'

    c. 1855

    RCIN 2083163

Glass plate negative of a daguerreotype nailed down on a wooden board. The image shows a full-length portrait of Prince Arthur, later Duke of Connaught (1850-1942) standing and facing the camera. He wears highland dress and has his hands crossed in front of him.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
