Princess Helena (Lenchen) explains that Princess Alice is unable to write to Prince Albert as she is sitting for her picture and has also had to write a letter for Prince Leopold. She also mentions that Princess Alice made a pancake at Swiss Cottage but touched it with 'dirty charcoal pinchers'. Princess Helena also tells her father that François has died and that Flora is upset.
