Head of a long-haired young man [from 'The Expulsion of Heliodorus from the Temple']

c.1800-1876

Lithograph | RCIN 852676

A lithograph described by Ruland (1876) as reproducing the head of one of the two men brandishing a sword while rushing forward at the side of the armed rider in Raphael's fresco of 'The Expulsion of Heliodorus from the Temple', painted in 1511-12 in the Stanza di Eliodoro in the Vatican. Lettered with artists' names along lower margin. The figure reproduced here bears slight resemblance to the foremost of the two hovering men painted in the fresco, but it also differs from it in a number of details.
  • Added to the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
