GIOVANNI BATTISTA DE CAVALIERI (C. 1525-1601)

St Paul

dated 1571

Engraving | 46.2 x 26.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851560

A print based on a painting by Fra Bartolommeo currently housed in the Palazzi Vaticani, Vatican City. The print erroneously credits Raphael with the invention. The painting was accompanied by a companion piece depicting St Peter, generally thought to have been begun by Fra Bartolommeo and completed by Raphael. A print by G.B. de Cavalieri after the painting of St Peter can be found at RCIN 851561.
