AFTER A WORK COPYING PERINO DEL VAGA (FLORENCE 1501-ROME 1547)

A photograph of a drawing now in the Christ Church Picture Gallery, Oxford (inv. no.0161). The drawing is a copy after a drawing by Perino del Vaga currently in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.593). The latter is a study for one of the six intaglios engraved in rock crystal by Giovanni Bernardi for the 'Cassetta Farnese', an embossed silver-gilt setting made by Manno Sbarri in c.1548-61 and now housed in the Museo e Gallerie Nazionali di Capodimonte, Naples. The composition was also engraved by Giorgio Ghisi (Bartsch XV, p.403, no.46). A photograph of the original drawing by Perino dal Vaga now in the Louvre at RCIN 851811.
