      Sarcophagi relief

      A print reproducing a sarcophagus relief now in the Museum in Vienna. In the XVI century, the sarcophagus was situated in front of the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, Rome, and was subsequently moved to Palazzo Giustiniani. The sarcophagus is thought to have inspired Raphael's drawings for 'Apollo, Minerva, and the Muses', a series of 16 plates engraved by Marcantonio Raimondi after designs by the master. Fifteen plates from this series at RCINs 851751.a-o.
