The Virgin and Child

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 60.6 x 10.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851262

A photograph of a fragment of a drawing formerly attributed to Raphael, listed by Ruland (1876) as being then in the Royal Collection, Desden. The drawing resembles the so-called Madonna della Seggiola, a painting by Raphael (c.1514) now in the Galleria Palatina, Palazzo Pitti, Florence (inv. no.151). For a photograph of the painting, see RCIN 850973.

The photograph shows the bust-length Virgin cheek-to-cheek with the Christ Child, both looking at the viewer.
