Holy Families & Madonna and Child

MICHEL CORNEILLE (ORLÉANS 1602-PARIS 1664)

Holy Family with St Elizabeth

c.1622-1654

Engraving | 20.1 x 26.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851323

A print reproducing a composition formerly associated with Raphael. Ruland (1876) described the print as a copy after an anonymous engraving in the style of Paolo Farinati (see Passavant, 1860, vol.II, E 26.b).

The print shows St Elizabeth sitting next to the cradle, resting her head on her arm and looking at the Virgin who sits on the ground under a tree and holds the Christ Child on her knees, who embraces the Infant Baptist; in a landscape.
