Holy Families & Madonna and Child

AFTER A WORK ATTRIBUTED TO BERNARDINO PINTURICCHIO (C. 1452-1513)

A study of the bust of the Virgin

c.1860-76

Carbon print | 21.6 x 16.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851301

A photograph of a pricked drawing now in the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.504E). The attribution of the drawing is still disputed, with some scholars suggesting Bernardino Pinturicchio (Inventario Uffizi. Disegni Esposti I 1986, no.504E) and some others Perugino (Ferino Pagden 1982, no.51). The drawing has been long attributed to Raphael.

The photograph shows the bust of the Virgin, turned three-quarters to the left, with the eyes cast down and the hands clasped in prayer.
