Photograph of a full length portrait of Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse (1843-78), standing, facing three-quarters to the left. She is dressed as the personification of Spring, with a floral headdress, light colour shirt, dark colour waistcoat, light colour sash, dark colour apron and light colour skirt. She carries a basket of flowers in her left hand and a flower in her right hand. She was dressed for a performance of 'Tableaux of the Seasons , which took place in the Rubens Room at Windsor Castle on 10 February 1854, her parents' wedding anniversary.
