Photograph of a full length portrait of Prince Alfred, later Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1844-1900) seated on a barrel, draped with leopard skin. Prince Alfred faces three-quarters to the left and turns his head toward the camera. He poses with his left hand on his hip and his right hand raised, holding a goblet. He wears light colour stockings and shirt, a leopard skin toga, Roman inspired sandals and a garland of grapes on his head.

Prince Alfred is dressed as Bacchus, as a representation of Autumn for a performance of 'Tableaux of the Seasons'.
